A disclosure up front: we make Qlango, a language app, so we have an interest here. The list itself is plain fact: we read Duolingo's full course catalogue on 1 November 2026 and checked each of the 80 languages Qlango teaches against it.
The short answer: 41 of the languages Qlango teaches have no Duolingo course for English speakers. For 39 of them, Duolingo has no course at all. Catalan is on Duolingo only for Spanish speakers, and Cantonese only for Mandarin speakers.

Catalan and Cantonese are on Duolingo, but not for English speakers: Catalan is taught only from Spanish, and Cantonese only from Mandarin. For the other 39, Duolingo has no course at all.
Levels follow the CEFR scale, from A1 for beginners upwards. Every course is free to start, on iPhone, Android and the web.
What you get in Qlango for these languages
Each course is split into themes and lessons that follow the CEFR levels. Every example is read aloud, and every lesson comes back on a fixed schedule, after one, two, four and eight days and then once more, so the words you learn stay learned. You choose the language you learn from, so you can take a course from your own native language rather than from English, and an AI teacher answers questions about grammar and vocabulary as you go.
If you're starting one of these languages, our guides cover the alphabet, the sounds, your first words and a plan for the first month. They're linked in the table above.
FAQ
Does Duolingo teach Croatian, Serbian or Slovak?
No. As of November 2026, Duolingo has no course in Croatian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian or Bulgarian, from any language. Qlango teaches all five.
Is there an app to learn Tatar or Kazakh?
Yes. Qlango teaches both Tatar and Kazakh at A1 and A2. Duolingo, Babbel and Busuu don't offer either language to English speakers.
Can English speakers learn Catalan on Duolingo?
Not as of November 2026: Duolingo's Catalan course is taught from Spanish only. Qlango teaches Catalan at A1 and A2, and you can take it from English or from another language you know.
Will Duolingo add these languages?
We can't say. Duolingo adds and removes courses over time, so check its catalogue if you're reading this much later.
